ABOUT US
Premium cool climate wines produced along the Great Ocean Road.
A love of wine and travel
Great Ocean Road Wines was born out of a love of wine and travel across the many wine regions of the world, from Tuscany, Porto, Napa and Rioja to Marlborough, Yarra Valley and the Barossa. Fresh from his field trip to Burgundy in 2019, Gavin Dyson is releasing his first wines, with a clear focus on traditional wine grapes of that region, namely Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Great Ocean Road Wines 2020 Pinot Noir is the first release of what we hope are many vintages to come.
Our beloved Great Ocean Road covers a very large area, extending 243km from Torquay to Warrnambool on the South Western side of Port Phillip Bay in Victoria. The first vines planted in the region were some of the first in Victoria, almost two centuries ago in 1842 in the Barrabool Hills near Geelong, just 24km north west of the start of the GOR in Torquay. The Geelong wine region only overlaps with a small part of this area however. There are also many excellent wines produced along the Great Ocean Road across the Otways and Surf Coast hinterlands that don’t bear the Geographical Indicator (GI) of Geelong.

A Passion for Local
As a local winemaker and viticulturist, and proud owner of Great Ocean Road Wines, Gavin has a strong passion for the local region. The resurgence in number of independent local wine producers in the area also makes it an exciting place to be. Whether it’s from the Geelong region or a little further along the Great Ocean Road (GOR), we want to share with you the very best this region has to offer.

Cool Climate Wines
The area is home to cool climate grape varieties and wine styles that are food friendly and ever so drinkable. Some with great cellaring potential. Red varieties such as Pinot Noir, Shiraz (aka Syrah) and to lesser degree Meunier and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown locally. White varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling are also found in the region.
